In the mid-1930, at the height of the Great Depression the vision of targeting selected customers group for auto insurance led to the establishment of GEICO in 1936 by Leo and Lillian Goodwin, a team of husband and wife. The company also hired 12 staff members to run the insurance business. The insurance company passed through continuous ups and down over the years and finally became a part of warren Berkshire Hathaway investment firm in 1996 through the acquisition of remaining shares of GEICO.
