History: In N Out came in existence in 1948 when Harry Snyder along with his spouse Esther opened first restaurant at Baldwin Park, California. It was the first Drive-thru restaurant in California State. By 1951, a second restaurant was opened at Covina, California. Harry always resisted from franchising and adopted a system of distribution centers for expansion. In 1976, the chain had presence at 18 locations when Harry died. With this, the ownership of these restaurants went into the hands of his son Rich Snyder. Under his presidency the chain expanded to 90 locations and had first restaurant in northern part in 1991. In 1993, Guy Snyder became the president of the company and in six years, 50 more locations were added to the chain. Currently, these restaurants are owned by Lynsi Martinez, the only grandchild of the founders.
