History

The establishment of ‘The Los Angeles County Museum of Arts’, in the form of a museum, took place in the year 1961. The LACMA earlier belonged to the Los Angeles Museum of History, Science, and Art, which was founded in the year 1910, near the University of Southern California. In the year 1965, it was shifted to Wilshire Boulevard complex, and it was an art focused, independent institution. It is the style of building looks just like the Los Angeles Music Center, and the Lincoln Center. It had three buildings: the Lytton Gallery (which, in 1968, was renamed as the Frances and Armand Hammer Building), the Bing Center, and the Ahmanson Building.

Exhibitions

The museum holds many exhibitions from time to time. The show, which was best attended so far was the “Treasures of Tutankhamun”. It drew about 1.2 million people when it was open for 4 months, in 1978. Later, in the year 2005 again, another exhibition, now called “Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs” attracted about 937,613 people when it ran for 137-days. Then was also a show of masterpieces of Vincent van Gogh, which stands to be the third show, which was most successful. The fourth position is enjoyed by French Impressionist works, which was exhibited in the year 1984.

Public Programs

Some other duties involve: answering phones, greeting the visitors, encouraging donors, creating presentations, preparing reports of monthly development, management of donor records and files and maintaining the confidentiality of the same, and assisting the events of development.  The candidate must be a Bachelor’s degree holder and possessing two to four years of experience in the related field. Strong preference would be for experience in administration in a fundraising or developing environment. The candidate must have a solid knowledge of working with Raiser’s Edge, MS – Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Curatorial Administrator – The Curatorial Administrator is responsible for providing office support and administrative layout to the department. He reports to Director, Program of the Art of the Ancient America.

This individual is responsible for maintaining and updating the information regarding permanent collection; providing assistance to projects currently under progress which include loans, rotations of the permanent collection, and exhibitions; answers the requests made by the general public; coordinating and maintaining calendars and appointments; making arrangements for travel as required by department staff; handling and tracking of paperwork of the department; and facilitating the communication between museum staff and the department.
