The story of the Giant/Martin’s began as David Javitch opened a butcher shop managed by two men, and named it as the ‘Carlisle Meat Market’.  He developed on the principle of –‘Best products at the fairest price.’ The Giant and Martin’s Food Markets was founded in the year 1923. It works as a supermarket-chain which is managed by Giant-Carlisle. In 1998, Ahole purchased Giant-Landover and some stores of Martin’s were shut and other chains bought them to comply as per the FTC regulations. The name of the company originated from a chain based in Hagerstown, Maryland. The Giant Food chain, while going through an expansion in the year 1968, purchased Martin’s.
