History: Gus Belt found steak ‘n Shake in Normal, Illinois in February 1934. As the demand grew, Steak ‘n Shake sold its first franchise in the late ‘30s. Twenty years later, Gus Belt passed away, leaving his wife Edith to run the business. In 1969, Edith sold the business to Longchamps, the company which after running Steak ‘n Shake for almost two years, sold the majority of stock to Franklin Corporation in 1971. By 1975, Steak ‘n Shake had 130 locations all over the United States. In 1981, the company was bought by E. W. Kelley and Associates. The company expanded to international locations by 2012, announcing its opening in the UAE.
