History: It all began when the former Governor of Kentucky, John Y. Brown decided to financially support the founder of Texas Roadhouse W. Kent Taylor for the opening of his restaurant, Buckhead Hickory Grill, by providing him with a sum of $80,000. The partnership collapsed after some time, but Taylor opened another restaurant with the aid of three cardiologists. The Clarkesville restaurant flourished, debuting under the name of Texas Roadhouse in 1993. By the end of the 1990s, 67 restaurants were operating under the Texas Roadhouse flagship. With 162 restaurants in more than 30 states in operation at the end of 2003, the company officially changed its name to Texas Roadhouse, Inc. in 2004.
