History
The primary store was started by Ralph Ward and Bud Williams in the year 1967. It was then named as Waremart and Cub Foods and was a warehouse store of grocery in Boise, Idaho and also offered discount. The Waremart employees got an ownership stake while being in the company in 1985. This was, when an employee stock ownership plan, headed by Mr. Bill Long, the then president, and supported by the management and staff employees procured a mass interest of the company from Ward family.
In the beginning of 1991, Waremart closed the two Boise locations and a new store which was the largest size supermarket in the history of Idaho. Furthermore, in 1999, the name of Waremart was changed to WinCo Foods to avoid the observable confusion of customers against some other ‘mart’ stores like Wal-Mart and Kmart.
Presence
About seventy stores of the company are under operation all through Nevada, Washington, Utah, California, Idaho, and Oregon. Signing of leases for expanding to Southern Nevada and Arizona happened in January 2011. Stores were also opened in places like Henderson and Las Vegas and in Nevada in March 2012. Earlier, in Arizona, the company opened its first pair of stores on April 1, 2012.
